The Scholasticarium

Set in the heart of Kaiin, the cultural hub of Ascolais, The Scholasticarium offers students the opportunity to acquire the finest of educations while experiencing the best of all that can be found in Almery... or indeed the world.

The Scholasticarium has close links with the surrounding city. The majority of students are permitted to wander outside the bounds of the Scholasticarium, while city residents are welcome to take advantage of the wide range of courses on offer from our scholars. Many members of the Faculty serve on the boards of local charities or otherwise assist the elderly and infirm to deal with the rigours of daily life.

Some facilities, such as the famed Botanic Gardens, the Picture and Sculpture Galleries and the Reliquiae are open to residents of Kaiin at times specified on the main gates.

There was certainly a city on the site of modern Kaiin in the eighteenth aeon, and presumably it contained some sort of educational establishment. Only by the most extreme stretch of logic can this be connected with the Scholasticarium ... What is known is that the Scholasticarium predates the Kings of Kaiin, and it is from this time, not a century but over two aeons later, that the statues of Haxtulkitz and his peers derive. However, these are not scholars, as any fool can see who cares to note the extended ears, fangs and so forth. They, including the satyr, are guardian demons, placed according to the Raidifidian creed popular at the time, and said to have originally been able to spring to life in time of need, such as when bumptious city authorities attempted to impose taxation on the Institute ... Both Perrin and Grashpotel have been teaching at the Scholasticarium since before their time, and the only thing they founded was an entirely unnecessary formal academic hierarchy the sole purpose of which was to promote their own importance, and which senior scholars still refuse to acknowledge ...
