May I take this opportunity to remind fellow residents of Kaiin that the recent mists and fogs falling from the lofty heights of Porphiron Scar presage the mating season of the river slugs. City statutes require riverside residents to net the eggs in order to reduce the number of adult slugs playing havoc with shipping, but the eggs themselves are well worth the effort of collection. I personally recommend they be pickled in red wine vinegar sweetened to taste with honey and spiced with cloves, cinnamom, citrus and black pepper. After a month or two the eggs will be a rich red in colour, delightful to the eye and delicious served with soft cheese or cold meats.
